The Farningham Woods Walk - 19th June 2010

Campsite___front.JPG

FARNINGHAM Woods Scout Campsite consists of 10 acres of beautiful woodland in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is well loved by Swanley Scouts as an ideal base for back to basic camps and backwoods cooking. It adjoins a woodland nature reserve.

Both the campsite and the nature reserve are Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) which is a conservation designation that denotes a protected area in the United Kingdom. To find out more about SSSIs click here.

Swanley Scouts run the site under strict supervision from English Nature and Sevenoaks Council but there is still much that we want to do to improve it while preserving its unique environment. One of our main projects is to upgrade the toilet blocks, carry out maintenance on the land and develop camping plots for both Swanley Scouts and other youth organisations.

That is why we have launched the Farningham Woods Walk, a sponsored walk that is open to all Scouts and Guides both within Swanley District and outside, all other youth organisations and all registered charities that want to take part.

We will set up and organise the event with two mile walks for young people of Beaver age, five mile walks for youngsters of Cub age (8-10½) and 10 mile walks for the rest. We will run the event, providing marshals, refreshments and all printed and publicity material. All participants will have to do is organise their sponsorship and turn up and do the walk.

This is a sponsored walk with a difference. The proceeds will be split 50/50 with you keeping half and the rest - minus all the expenses - going into the Farningham Woods Fund. As well as raising funds for your own group, you will also be raising funds to provide the youth of the area with a great facility while doing your part to help the environment and nuture a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The inaugural Farningham Woods Walk takes place on Saturday, 19 June 2009. We have picked this date to allow groups to raise funds to go towards their summer camps, Pack Holidays and Beaver Sleepovers.

The starting point will be near the Woods at Eynsford with fully risk assessed routes that will be heavily marshaled. More details to follow but to register for your information pack, please complete this form.
