Top 10 Gold Awards for Scouts - 08-01-2012
Recently in a special ceremony in front of parents 10 Scouts from 1st Eynsford & Farningham Scout Group attended a special presentation of The Chief Scouts Gold Award.
This award is the highest award available in the Scout Section.
The awards were presented by Bruce MucKelt, Assistant District Commissioner for Scouts in Swanley District, assisted by Angela Brewer, Scout Leader & Andy Syres Group Vice President.
The ten Scouts who gained the award are: Calum, Matthew, Callum, Louise, Frankie, Ellena, Robert, Lottie, Callum & Philippa.
Swanley Assistant District Commissioner Bruce Muckelt praised the Scouts who earned the Chief Scout Gold Award “Well done to you all in achieving the highest award in the Scout Section. You have shown dedication, hard work and having fun in your Scouting in achieving this award is proof of that. Congratulations to you all.”
Angela Brewer their Scout Leader said “These are the first Chief Scout Gold Awards in the Group for many years – more than 15 years in fact. Thank you all for taking part in your programme, camps & activities over the last couple of years. You have now set a standard which I hope the younger members of the Troop will want to strive for as well. Well done!”
To gain this award the Scouts must undertake some of the following tasks.
It is gained by completing these 6 challenges;
- The Promise Challenge
- The Community Challenge
- The Fitness Challenge
- The Creative Challenge
- The Global Challenge
- The Outdoor Challenge
Plus Two of the following:
- The Outdoor Plus Challenge
- The Adventure Challenge
- The Expedition Challenge
Calum – Enjoyed the Outdoor challenge the best camping with friends having a good time & chilling in the tents talking. Easiest was the Community Challenge collecting paper & coffee morning.
Callum – Promise challenge a bit boring & Community was hard because you have to do loads, Outdoor was the most fun
Robert - Most enjoyable challenge as climbing Cat Bells , he didn’t enjoy cleaning the tent very much, but mountain biking & going out & about are he found easiest
Lottie - Enjoyed Cat bells because it was high but was also her hardest challenge, didn’t enjoy kayaking – probably because her hair got wet or was it those darn Explorers! She likes Scouts because you get to try thousands of new exciting things.
Frankie – enjoyed the rock climbing and found the hike his hardest challenge, the easiest was messing up the tent.
Callum – enjoyed the Adventure Challenge as he went on camp. Like the fun activities most, not so keen on the Outdoor as he had to do a lot of stuff.
Louise – the hardest challenge for Louise was the Outdoor because she finds it impossible to keep things tidy & there was lots of things to do. Louise enjoyed all the Challenges especially the Fitness because she likes sport & sleeping…
Phillippa - found the Outdoor Plus the hardest as she can’t put up a tent very quickly (more practice required)! Creative was the easiest because we worked in teams and enjoys creating drama pieces; she enjoys coming to Scouts to see friends & have fun…
Matthew – has enjoyed the Adventure Challenge, the Promise challenge was the easiest if not the most enjoyable. He likes camping the most about Scouts
